West Palm Beach to Fort Myers, Florida

Anne Marie and I left for Ft. Myers on Saturday morning. Everything was going well, especially over the Everglades. We joked about getting eaten by the alligators. As we were handed off by approach to Ft. Myers' tower, we had complete radio failure. We worked well under the stress and I got out the hand held and continued communicating. However, the hand held decided to be difficult. It required excessive amounts of power to transmit and would turn off. Then, the tower was trying to re-sequence us. However, due to the no radio situation, we could here them tell us on the hand held to go directly to the airport to land. We did.

The problem that caused us all the grief was a frayed wire to the alternator. Anne Marie contacted a mechanic and had it fixed ASAP!
